Back To Reality

The day had arrived to return to the reality of life. The Scot and Kiwi were in disbelief that 633 days ago they boarded the Tasmanian Ferry to start The Last Hurrah… a lap around Australia with a pit stop in Europe.

Memories memories memories…

The Mighty Corolla travelled close to 33,000km.

The Crazy Carrs

The interesting and generous house owners, people, friends and family they caught up with.

Amazing and Entertaining Fur, Feathered and Scaled Roomies. 16 Dogs, 8 Cats, 5 Ducks, 3 Chooks, 3 Fush and 1 Goat. All were accounted for at the end.

Public Transport when the Mighty Corolla was on vacation. Trains, Planes, Taxi, Uber, Ferry, Gondola and Walking feet.

There will be more mini Hurrahs in the near future.

Better not be late for our work.

Day 430… Wednesday

Another day back on the road in Victoria, the Scot and Kiwi decided to have an egg roll that filled the belly for the short drive ahead.

Sights seen or heard from the Mighty Corolla…

Long roads, railway crossings, thriving country towns, ghosts towns and static A.M radio.

A stop in Echuca to visit the Thong (Jandal) Tree, Paddle Steamers on the Murray River and the Historic Port.

New area and new home for the next fortnight… Kyabram. To make a good impression, the Mighty Corolla had a scrub and shower. The McMiniature was set up for the last time for a while before the Scot and Kiwi met the new Fur Roomies. Unfortunately, the Scaled Roomies had passed away.

A return to McMinature and the highlight for the Scot was a Fire Pit. The Scot and Kiwi met a couple from the Netherlands who were beginning a Lap of Oz. As the Scot and Kiwi were almost at the end of their journey, they decided to pass on the Camps guide and Lonely Planets to help them on their trip.

Walked: 3.9km

Day 429…Choo Choo Tues

Delightful children decided the Scot and Kiwi’s Site was the perfect place for hide and seek at 6:30am.

This motivated the pair to pack, shower, enjoy a cuppa with fried goodies.

As it was a day on the road…

⛰ The Adelaide Hills woke up the Mighty Corolla who had been rested at Club Adelaide.

🦌 While the Scot and Kiwi cruised, they were surprised to see their first wild deer, unfortunately it was road kill.

🍇🍉 🐝 There was no Quarantine checkpoint into Victoria but one into South Australia. The Scot and Kiwi could keep and eat their onion and jar of honey.

🚓 Victoria Police were the only ones that waved at the Scot. Fellow travellers in Victoria were not as friendly as the Northern Territory Folk.

🚂 The Kiwi took the Scot on C Roads to Swan Hill, there was a token strip of tar alongside the gravel and they crossed over Railtracks a number of time.

⛺️ After 330 Days the pair returned to Big 4 Swan Hill and camped on the exact site they had stayed on all those months ago. It was another bizarre coincidence, one of many on this crazy trip.

🦆 An evening beside the river with rising fush and ducks quacking.

Walked: 3.1km

Day 411… Friendly FriYAY

With sadness, the student alarm clock departed back to Whyalla. The Scot and Kiwi would have to set an alarm for tomorrow.

The pair began packing up McMansion, the decision to not move into McMiniature was decided by the Rain Gods.

Fellow Travellers from Victoria, chatted to the Kiwi. They were from the East in Langwarren, there were 3 generations camping together in mini and maxi camper trailers.

The day provided time to read, watch travellers set up (actually move into the safari tent) and more planes for the Kiwi to photograph.

There was a glimpse of the television for the Kiwi while the Scot nipped off to purchase a seafood basket and a ‘dippy dog’ (a battered hotdog)

It would have been a quiet night except for the entertaining phone call from other Kiwi mates who had been celebrating their love of music at Womad in Taranaki NZ.

Day 410… Thirsty Thursday

The Scot and Kiwi were welcomed into Thursday by the school kids on camp yelling and screaming again. Who needs an alarm clock.

With breakfast munched down the Kiwi dragged the Scot down to the beach to watch planes take off from the nearby airport. They even managed to see a China Southern Airlines plane jet off towards Guangzhou, a journey they will soon be taking.

After showering, the duo took a long but scenic walk into Glenelg for the afternoon where they rewarded themselves with a wee beer or two.

The walk back was just as enjoyable with a stop in the local sailing club for a quick libation with a stunning view over West Beach.

Back at camp, it was cooking duties for the Scot as the Kiwi made friends with our neighbours. A delicious meal of lamb and potatoes was enjoyed before a quiet night in the tent with reading club, screen time and a couple more bottles of hops. Be rude not to.

Day 409… Wednesday Walks

A quiet start to the day, except for the occasional roar of a plane. This caused the Kiwi to trip out of the tent to confirm sighting and share where it was going to the Scot. If it’s not Marine Watch it’s Aviation Watch for the Kiwi.

Due to the future house sitting dates being confirmed, the Scot and Kiwi had to reorganise where they would be laying their heads over Easter. They cancelled an unpowered site previously booked in Adelaide’s south and looked for accommodation over the Easter Weekend. Caravan Parks still need to make a living from flexible travellers that change their plans often so $32 was lost to the travel Gods.

Laziness had been settling in so today was a day to walk 8.2km along Henley Beach.

The Kiwi strikes a pose, hands on hips.

There was once a swimming pool now a car park.

A place for the Fush (fish) to leap, the Scot reflected on the Salmon Leap in Scotland.

There was a Masterchef Pressure Test between the pair for lunch with the key ingredient cold #KFC.

The Scot and Kiwi agree ifs its bad for you, enjoy it all….. especially the skin.

There was more Reading Club, the Kiwi smashed another book, and at night there was even time to reflect around the gas fire.

Day 408… Tuesday Chimes

Our duo awoke to the sounds of their fellow travellers packing up, accompanied by the sound of the first flights of the day leaving Adelaide.

A couple thought it would be a safe idea to place their toddler in the driver’s seat as they packed. The little one must of been listening to the Wiggles Big Red Car song, as it happily tooted the horn. (Beep beep BEEEEP) Definitely made the parents move fast to find another safe place.

As the Big 4 resort became more spacious, the duo decided to have a dip in the pool, plane spot and read.

There was a quick shop, the Kiwi turned it into a segment from the Generation Game. Goodies were thrown into the basket. She hoped the healthy lot would cover up the unhealthy from the Scot.

The duo had an important meeting in the afternoon to meet potential furry and scaled roomies. They appreciate the generosity and trust fellow humans install on them especially with the doom and gloom plastered across the media.

As it was Tuesday, they decided to visit the Good Old Colonel for a 9 piece KFC pack. The healthy dinner could wait another night in the Camp Kitchen fridge.

A sunset welcomed them back for an evening with the heater on and new books from the Laundry Book Exchange.
