Day 440… That’s a wrap!

The day had arrived to finalise the end of another housesit. The Scot and Kiwi scampered around packing while the fur roomies watched on.

Back on the road… the clouds became darker and rain arrived. Melbourne was preparing for the return of the duo.

The closer the Mighty Corolla neared to Melbourne, the busier the roads became and the more impatient the fellow road user became. The Scot declared ‘ that’s the end of another weekend, back to reality’. It had been 440 days since the Mighty Corolla boarded the Tasmania Ferry to begin the adventure around Australia.

While it poured with rain, the pair emptied the Mighty Corolla treasures into the storage shed and repacked their bags for the next adventure.

They drove to the Mighty Corolla’s new home for the next few months and caught up with their British friends.

After a quick change it was onto the train to catch up with other mates in the shitty. A night with laughter, hugs and gossip.

Day 431… Thursday Thanks

It was a late night and early morning, the Scot and Kiwi quietly packed up with little words.

As they were to move into a new housesitting position, a trip to Woolworths was in order. The trolley was loaded with ingredients for muffins, zucchini slice, Yorkshire puddings and enough food to see them through the whole duration. Thanks to Woolworths for the bonus 3000 points.

The Mighty Corolla was reversed onto the driveway and they could hear the welcoming barks from the Fur Roomies. One of the Roomies was anxious and had a few growls and barks. She soon decided the duo were friendly after numerous treats and ball games.

It was a day outside with the Fur Roomies before they took the duo for a walk around their neighbourhood. A quiet night in front of the idiot box was enjoyed with the dogs joining in the fun. As it was the Kiwi’s choice she chose Minimalism.

There were celebrations in the neighbourhood with fireworks luckily the fur roomies were safely inside.

Day 430… Wednesday

Another day back on the road in Victoria, the Scot and Kiwi decided to have an egg roll that filled the belly for the short drive ahead.

Sights seen or heard from the Mighty Corolla…

Long roads, railway crossings, thriving country towns, ghosts towns and static A.M radio.

A stop in Echuca to visit the Thong (Jandal) Tree, Paddle Steamers on the Murray River and the Historic Port.

New area and new home for the next fortnight… Kyabram. To make a good impression, the Mighty Corolla had a scrub and shower. The McMiniature was set up for the last time for a while before the Scot and Kiwi met the new Fur Roomies. Unfortunately, the Scaled Roomies had passed away.

A return to McMinature and the highlight for the Scot was a Fire Pit. The Scot and Kiwi met a couple from the Netherlands who were beginning a Lap of Oz. As the Scot and Kiwi were almost at the end of their journey, they decided to pass on the Camps guide and Lonely Planets to help them on their trip.

Day 429…Choo Choo Tues

Delightful children decided the Scot and Kiwi’s Site was the perfect place for hide and seek at 6:30am.

This motivated the pair to pack, shower, enjoy a cuppa with fried goodies.

As it was a day on the road…

⛰ The Adelaide Hills woke up the Mighty Corolla who had been rested at Club Adelaide.

🦌 While the Scot and Kiwi cruised, they were surprised to see their first wild deer, unfortunately it was road kill.

🍇🍉 🐝 There was no Quarantine checkpoint into Victoria but one into South Australia. The Scot and Kiwi could keep and eat their onion and jar of honey.

🚓 Victoria Police were the only ones that waved at the Scot. Fellow travellers in Victoria were not as friendly as the Northern Territory Folk.

🚂 The Kiwi took the Scot on C Roads to Swan Hill, there was a token strip of tar alongside the gravel and they crossed over Railtracks a number of time.

⛺️ After 330 Days the pair returned to Big 4 Swan Hill and camped on the exact site they had stayed on all those months ago. It was another bizarre coincidence, one of many on this crazy trip.

Day 428…New home

It was an early rise as the Kiwis were booked to return to Aotearoa. The Scot and Kiwi decided to spend one more night in Adelaide to prepare to hit the road on Tuesday.

They decided to return to Adelaide Foreshore Big 4 so that they could watch the Kiwis take off while they sipped on refreshments.

It was decided a wee 3.2km walk to Glenelg would be the perfect remedy for the duo. They had also arranged to meet their Melbourne Mates ( Brits/Poms) who were exploring the Public Transport System.

They took the Scot and Kiwi on the Tram to MacDoodles and a last hops in the Burbs of Adelaide. They farewelled each other… the mates had a 30ish stop bus ride while the Scot and Kiwi tramed and walk.

Walked: 11.7km

Day 427… Easter and Celebration 🎉

After a comfy sleep in the hotel, the duo headed down for their continental breakfast only to be surprised at a full buffet hot breakfast on offer. They stuffed their faces with sausage, egg, mushrooms and bacon.

With the Mighty Corolla safely parked away, the duo joined their Pommy Friends for a wander around the botanical gardens and city. As it was the Kiwi’s birthday she was treated to a pub lunch and a beer with the Scot handling driving duties for later.

They farewelled the Poms and made their way to the accommodation in the Adelaide suburb of Prospect. After a few birthday hops in the garden with the visiting Kiwis, they decided to head over to the visitors cousins house for a wee chat and more drinks.

With darkness firmly descended and the hour late, the three Kiwis and one Scot ambled back to the house for a nightcap and some much needed shuteye.

Day 426… Visitors in the Shitty Saturday

The day had arrived to farewell the Roomies, super clean the house and prepare for an exciting day ahead.

In the past the Scot and Kiwi had been stung with limited shops open over public holidays so they stocked up on supplies. However, Adelaide shitty surprised them with Woolworths and variety of other shops open as usual.

Once they arrived at Holiday Inn Express… the duo was having a posh bed for the night. It was time to: park up the Mighty Corolla, freshen up and prepare for fun and games with Kiwis and British friends.

It was a night filled with laughter, adventure and catching up with good mates.

Walked: 7.2km

Day 425…Good Friday

The alarm sound from the Fur Roomie made 4 yelps at the bedroom door. Once the Scot and Kiwi had surfaced, wiggling fur bottoms welcomed them.

As it was Good Friday… the Kiwi enjoyed her Hot Cross Bun. The Scot refused an offer.

There was confirmation the the Kiwis had safely arrived in Adelaide. Luckily the Scot and Kiwi still had one more day of Housesitting Duties to prepare for the meet up tomorrow.

It was a day filled with hiding from the Fur Roomies, packing and cleaning which unsettled the Fur Roomies that the duo would soon desert them.
